Me, myself and I

I started writing songs when I was 14. They sounded like the usual teen angst, “I hate the world”, wannabe Nirvana/Green Day/Ramones/Sum 41 (because that was who I listened to) pop punk misery and I loved it. I got to write all the songs for the band I was the drummer in with my friends at school and I thought I was going to be a rockstar! I still have some of the lyrics saved on my hard drive for laughs and mostly, to cringe and remind myself how much better I got at it years later.

For many years after that I just wrote for my own amusement. I still do but I like sharing what I’ve done when I think I’ve got solid tune.

I write about things that I like, about the people that inspire me and that mean something to me. (Or generally whatever pops into my head that I like the idea of). But mostly I write about my three great loves; my friends, music and sci-fi.

Under my influences I would list Nerf Herder, Dave Grohl, The Ramones, Pat Benatar, Puffy AmiYumi, Jonathan Coulton, Shannen Doherty, Charmed, Ellen DeGeneres, TV and movies, my friends and family, Sci-fi/supernatural/horror, monkeys… and generally anything else that creates an idea for something.

Music is an amazing thing. It’s communication on a more personal level because everyone identifies with music in their own personal way. It envokes ideas and feelings. That’s what I love about it.

I’m also a sound technician at Quad Studios in Leicester, UK.
